The Yeates School of Graduate Studies at Ryerson University is transforming graduate education at the urban core of Toronto. With a mandate for innovative, immersive, and interdisciplinary study, the Yeates School houses 48 Masters and PhD programs and over 125 Research Centres — including Canada’s #1 ranked business incubator. The Yeates School invited the team to reimagine and redesign their viewbook.

Inspired by the school’s mission to invite students to share in the advancement of a new kind of graduate education, we designed a modular publication that allows prospective students to customize the viewbook based on their individual interests and needs.

The unconventional format allowed each piece to be designed in a way that responds to its particular content, with the narrative, size, material, and structure truly considered. Profile cards pair large portraits with bold quotations and a short story. The map is formatted for ease of use in transit. The full volume includes 9 distinct pieces, and stands apart from the traditional booklet format.

The team spearheaded the writing, photography, design, web integration, and wall display of the book. Upon entering the lobby of the Yeates School, each component is mounted in its own compartment, allowing visitors to curate an collection most relevant to them.
